Nutmeg is the seed derived from the fruit of a dark-leaved evergreen tree Myristica Fragrans of the family Myristicaceae. Myristica Fragrans is the only tree that produces two separate spices, Nutmeg fruits are fleshy and drupe, when ripening, the fruit’s colour slowly transforms to yellow, and the pericarp is split into two halves exposing the seeds. The shiny seed which is nutmeg, is covered by a red aril called mace. From ancient times, Nutmeg has been a vastly prized spice for its numerous applications, especially for culinary, medicinal. Nutmeg, grown in Sri Lanka has developed a complex chemical composition and an equally complex aroma based on the countries unique terroir, and is identified under the geographical indication of Ceylon Nutmeg. We offer organic aflatoxin free nutmeg since our farmers are well trained and committed to avoid contamination while harvesting.
