The trap is a 5-liter plastic bucket with a rough surface on the outside so that males attracted by the pheromone can easily climb onto the surface of the trap until they enter its bottom through the openings.
• The trap has four side openings.
• The pheromone should be attached to the trap's lid, which should then be hung 1.5 to 2 meters above the ground between palm trees, or placed in a hole in the soil between palm trees.
It is recommended to use this trap for monitoring the red palm weevil at a rate of 4 traps per hectare. It is also very effective for intensive control of this pest by reducing its damage and spread rate at a rate of 8-10 traps per hectare.
This trap provides early warning of infestations and also alerts the user at low levels of these pests before they become dangerous .
How to install the trap in the soil:
Dig a hole in the soil the size of the bucket up to the level of the side openings, place the bucket in the hole and bury it so that the surface of the soil is at the level of the side openings of the trap.
• Trap maintenance: To maintain the trap's performance and effectiveness, the following must be observed:
1- Inspect the trap and change the food material weekly (dates + yeast + water), as well as clean it and collect any trapped insects.
2- Change the pheromone when it expires or is about to expire, as its duration ranges from 6-8 weeks depending on the ambient temperature.
3- It is necessary to maintain the trap's position in the soil so that the side openings are at the level of the soil surface.
4- The traps must be placed far from the farm's boundaries so that they are not attracted from neighboring farms.
5- Replenish the pesticide at the bottom of the bucket to kill insects if they are caught (powdered pesticide)
